Early-bird enrolments close 19 December

Just a reminder that Early-bird enrolments for the Summer Course close Friday 19 December (just after the Christmas Party).  Don’t miss out on our very reasonable pre-Christmas prices.

You might even think about enrolling a loved one in the Course as a Christmas present, or treating yourself to something entirely different for the Summer break….

Tea Dance travel update

Just a reminder about the Spring Tea Dance next Sunday 22 September, 1.30pm for 2pm-4.30pm in the St James Trust Building (Level 1, 160 Castlereagh Street, Sydney).

We have an important note regarding transport on the day: the Sydney Spring Running Festival is on that morning, including the Sydney Marathon, Half Marathon and Fun Runs.  As a result, the Harbour Bridge, Bradfield Highway and Cahill Expressway will be closed 4am to 11am. Many CBD streets will be closed until 1.30pm, with others (including Castlereagh St) being designated special event clearways until that time.  See http://www.sydneyrunningfestival.org/ which has a link to a PDF map, and http://m.livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/Incident.aspx?id=442341 for maps & info about road closures and clearways.

We urge you to come along – especially by train, as walking from Town Hall station is the best option. (Please check bus timetables for alterations due to road closures.) See 131500.com.au for up to date information.

If you’d still prefer to drive, allow extra time, and see http://www.wilsonparking.com.au/go/regions/sydney-city-south for Sunday $10 – $15 flat rate CBD parking options.

Let’s celebrate the Spring in a more elegant – if somewhat less energetic – manner! Or you could always follow that run with Tea and Trabucchetti. Either way, we looking forward to seeing you there!

Best wishes,

Fiona & John.

Spring Tea Dance 22 September

The Early Dance Consort 2013 Spring Tea Dance, Sunday 22 September
EDC Spring Tea Dance 2013

Looking forward to seeing you there! Friends and family welcome.

Spring Ball 2013

St_James_Trust_Dance_StudioAt last we have a Spring Ball booked for Sunday 22nd September 2013, around 1.30pm -4.30pm in the city. (Our usual venue is no longer available for us on Saturday evenings.)  Exact details yet to be finalised, but please put the date in your diary.

The Sunday will avoid the Federal Election, whenever it might be… and we hope the time will suit most people. The city venue is readily accessible by public transport, and parking is also possible on Sundays.

This time the Ball will be a sort of Thé dansant (Tea Dance – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_dance for some more info on the genre, which really belongs to a more recent period).

The venue is interesting, because it is a lovely dance studio in the St James Trust Building, at 160 Castlereagh Street.  Though built in the 1920s (Gatsby era!) it is in the Palazzo style, with a touch of classical/Renaissance style (http://www.sydneyarchitecture.com/cbd/cbd4-052.htm has some info) – of course strictly speaking everything in Sydney is anachronistic for us!

The cost will be somewhat more, but with simplified catering, and more dancing, we hope that it will be worth it to be in such an elegant setting.
